    Are the busts permanently attached?

    •  2 дня назад

Yes, they are secured to a metal pole and then a lime-based adhesive is used to fasten the busts in place. They weigh around two hundred kilograms. They won't be moving anytime soon!

  • @SonicPhonic

Ironically it wasn't the French king who's actions resulted in he revolution, but the "nobles" who refused to pay taxes.

  • @user-jv5gs7hx6t
    @user-jv5gs7hx6t 3 дня назад

This is such a community effort that will continue after the work is "complete". Just as it was in the time it was constructed. The Big House then provided work for the villagers, as it does now and their skills will be handed on to other young men and women. Everyone must be proud of the excellent standard of restoration.

Y’all need BABY POOLS. They are almost as tall as your 5 gallon buckets. They look shallow but the larger plastic ones are in a circle that I would 6-7 feet wide. It helps with splashing and everyone knows how annoying it is to to put a bucket under a drip and you come to check and the drip is now 3 in each from. KIDDY POORS

    •  2 дня назад

Thanks for your message. We have advanced significantly since this video was produced. With the first half of the roof restoration now complete (and obviously, therefore now watertight), we have proceeded on to the second half. That portion of the roof is now covered by a large temporary canopy structure which is proving far more effective than the tarpaulins and other measures that were in place when this video was produced. But thank you for your suggestion.

  • @rowenacountryman2242

I just want to make one observation about the difference in social division. In 2024 we think servants living quarters are controversial and the dirty not so secret past. What frustrates me most is that you judge the people for having 4-50 servants on the grounds when in those periods people would have felt honored to work at these places. They had a safe place to live. They were given uniforms, a room, food, water, no taxes, medical care(when they had doctors)), taught to hunt/ride/art/cooking/farming/ whatever they needed. Some lived and raised families inside these chateau’s. I am not naive I get the they were treated badly but it was a job. It was stability. It was a high social class then people who lived 15 family members in a three room apartment without heat. Having trouble finding jobs and food. Clothes were made by hand with horrible materials that were cast aways. Their children were uneducated. Most couldn’t read or write. They knew nothing about art, history, music, dancing, and many other subjects that people who lived there learned. They weren’t highborn but they also were low class. We work jobs and have people above you getting rich while you do the work. We have homeless, gutter rats, second class, middle class, high class. Judging before realizing everyone worked together to make sure that they all had a place to live. The better the families business do the better quality of life for everyone.

    •  2 дня назад

Your raise many interesting points. However, it's fair to say that the relationship between the servant class and the nobles that they served was complex in both France and Great Britain. We must be wary of presenting either too dire a picture or alternatively creating a somewhat idealised fantasy of what life was like. We prefer to present the history visually through the discoveries that we make. It is up to others to decide what conclusions to reach about the state of relations between the various social classes. But, be aware that just as Les Miserables or Oliver Twist may exaggerate the woes of the working classes, Downtown Abbey may also present too rosy a picture of the symbiotic relationship between nobles and their domestic staff. Thank you for your message and for following our journey.

As someone who films with drones regularly, ND filters are a great addon for sunny days so no additional saturation increases needed =) looking forward to future content, keep up the amazing work!

Louis the xvth could be loved as far as being called he had annexed Napoleon's Corsica to France. Not because he left it in financial trouble, presided over several pointless wars and his successor was the ultimate cause of the French Revolution. Henry de IV in contrast was far more interesting. Born Catholic and raised by his Protestant Huguenot mother. He had great influence on the resurrection and creation of Protestant republics such as that of the Netherlands, Holland. Financed and supported. He kept the balance between Catholic and Protestant faith as Henry the good.

    •  5 дней назад

All useful historical points. But you may be being a little harsh on Louis XVI to label him the 'ultimate cause of the French Revolution'. We would agree that Louis XV brought huge financial problems to France and embroiled France in several devastating wars. But when we reference him as 'The Beloved' this was the title given to him by the French people during this era. Henri IV was a much wiser ruler. They are both fascinating historical figures. Thank you for your message.

Fantastic guys but I get confused when the chateau is called 'her'. I thought chateau in the French language is masculine?

    •  5 дней назад

Don't be confused... it's common in many languages to give certain types of objects a feminine personality - for example cars, boats and even (archaically) countries. Boat is masculine in French (le bateau), but people often refer to a particular boat as 'her'. Our architect did exactly this with Chateau de Purnon when he said to us (in French) "we are reawakening an old lady and must reawaken her slowly". Thanks for your message.

Thank you for sharing moments like this with us. I stopped watching a vlog this week, as the new owners rush to do modernization work. Your attention to detail and such a phenomenal detail of returning the two busts to their original position on the roof. Every tiny detail is not overlooked. Nothing thrown away. Thank you for your message! Every chateau journey is different. For us, our focus is on honouring heritage and history and respecting the incredible work undertaken by our skilled artisans. This is not a renovation but a restoration. Many other chateaux are not heritage listed buildings so the owners are free to be creative in other ways. Each journey will be determined by the history of the buildings and the philosophy of the owners.
